Blog #5 Allstate Mayhem, lets dive deeper

 reference material here.

Hell everyone, this time around I want to talk about an Allstate commercial that exemplifies how subtlety can go a long way, and is specifically meant to resonate with its target audience. With that being said lets get started! Allstates commercial "Beauty Blogger | Allstate Mayhem" is a 23 second long ad that is a different take on advertising home insurance to people.

Firstly, as the ad starts you are presented with a bedroom filled with a variety of pink and purple blankets, sheets, and pillows. You can also see a jewelry box and some makeup on a desk, with the main focus point being on a gentleman with a black suit, white undershirt, and a dark grey tie using a sky blue curling iron on his hair. The first line presented is "I am a beauty blogger, and this mermaid hair how-to is gonna get me a ton of likes" symbolizing that the main character is fixated on their social media presence, and cares a large amount on others approval. Within a few seconds the main character places the burning hot curling iron on a pure white hand towel knowing that it will lead to a poor outcome. The main character willingly admits this and does it anyway. Almost instantly you can see the curling iron is starting to burn the towel with a light grey smoke coming from both the curling iron and the white hand towel. At this point the main character uses a pop culture reference to complement the action being done leading into his pitch regarding having the right home insurance. Near the end of the pitch a fire erupts from the towel into an open flame which begins to grow, as the main character expresses the need to get Allstate to be "better protected against mayhem such as himself". This is where the music picks up and it is a sort of mischievous tune with some light heartedness to it to which the ad cuts to a solid blue image with Allstates name and motto.

Secondly, from what we learned from the initial analysis above, it can be determined that the main character is simulating a genuine accident that can applicable to today. The ad is trying to depict a real life scenario where a beauty blogger is filming a how to video on how to make mermaid hair. The beauty blogger aka mayhem aka the main character of the ad leaves their hot curling iron on a flammable object that to happens to catch flame. Allstate is a home insurance company that is trying to sell home insurance to its target audience which appears to be young adults, and parents. We can get this from observing the pop culture references regarding social media to most likely depict a young adult, and/or parent as everything placed throughout the scene could be that of a young daughters room. Most often times kids make mistakes as they do not know any better in this case the mistake being the hot curling iron on the towel. The ad is trying to show how it easy it can be for one mistake to ruin your home, and is trying to provide a solution to the aftermath of such a problem.

In conclusion Ads will have a deeper meaning behind them if you choose to look hard enough, and take note of this as not all ads are necessarily truthful or accurate.

This has been Blissful Ignorance, goodnight everyone.
